Samat Vista Residence
A home that doesn't need to show off.

The story
Not every vacation home needs to make a grand entrance.
For a couple running their businesses in bustling Manila, the dream was simple: a quiet place where they could escape the noise of the city, slow things down, and enjoy a little more of what nature has to offer.
They found that place on a mountainside in Bataan, on a sprawling property overlooking the iconic Mount Samat Cross, with a river flowing far below.
And the house? Well, it has a little secret.
From the street, Samat Vista Residence looks like a modest single-storey home. Its clean white walls, warm wood accents, and simple roofline were deliberately kept understated. After all, the owners weren't looking for something flashy.
But follow the slope of the land, and the house reveals an entirely different side.
What appears to be a single-storey residence from the road is actually a spacious two-level home built into the hillside. The upper ground floor houses three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and access to a shared balcony overlooking Mount Samat. There's also a family area and a two-car carport.
Downstairs, the living and dining spaces, kitchens, and supporting facilities open up another side of the home. And just beyond them is perhaps its most memorable feature: an infinity swimming pool that seems to disappear into the surrounding treeline, with Mount Samat standing proudly in the distance.
Of course, building on a mountainside comes with its own set of challenges. The steep terrain made foundation excavation particularly demanding, requiring an excavator to carry out the necessary groundwork.
But that same landscape is what makes Samat Vista Residence special.
From the overall architectural design and interiors to the construction of the house and its infinity pool, Crisostomo Architects brought the project to life as a retreat that embraces its surroundings rather than competing with them.
Because sometimes, the best kind of luxury isn't about standing out. It's about finding a place where you can finally slow down.
